During the late nineteenth century in Europe, livestock breeding became a newly created fashion. Royalty, nobility and commoners competed for livestock prizes at agricultural shows. Poultry were toured in horse-drawn caravans over nearly impassable roads to entertain the crowds who flocked to see them. Debates were waged in the national press over the relative merits of one breed versus another.
Two beautifully illustrated books were presented to the public in 1873. The Illustrated book of Poultry by Lewis Wright, was illustrated by Ludlow (also available on CD) and The Poultry Book by W. B. Tegetmeir was illustrated by Harrison Weir. Both of these publications set the standards of the poultry breeds, as well as illustrated art. The beautifully illustrated plates from both of these books have become very rare, since they are a favorite among interior designers and print galleries.
The illustrations, which are found on this CD, are from the pencil of Harrison Weir and speak for themselves.

I have found that these Images print best on Hammer mill Ink Jet Matte paper. When printed directly from the CD, they are the actual size. (The same as the originals) and the result is an awesome print almost indistinguishable as a reprint, even when using a relatively inexpensive home ink jet printer. If Image permanence is a concern, these digital images will also render beautiful professional quality prints when professionally printed on acid free paper using the Giclée (jhee-clay) printing process.
