Book Description: Cassell & Company. 1903, 1903. 4to, contemporary leather-backed brown cloth, the binding signed Stronghold Split-Case, the backstrip gilt with tendrils and flowers, a little rubbed. pp 380. "With 12 coloured plates and nearly 350 illustrations in the text". Whilst the monochrome text illustrations - some are full-page - are usually from photographs, the glossy finished coloured plates are after paintings by W Luker jnr, Miss F Marks, and Madame Henriette Ronner. Only Edition. Far more scarce than Cassell Books of the Horse, Dog and Poultry, Includes a History, Catteries, Showing cats, facilities for lost and starving cats etc. as well as descriptions and illustrations of various breeds. The contents cover all aspects of cats, breeding, care and management, various breeds and variants including a chapter on cats in America , photography, cats in history and exhibiting.
